I've been running TempFileCleaner on my laptop for at least ten minutes... for the last eight or so, absolutely nothing new has happened except the logo flashing (which it always seems to do when I run it) and the green bar filling a little, then going back to nothing, then filling a little. Is this normal? If not, what should I do?

Hello, perhaps you had a bad install/
It usually runs in seconds to a few minutes. I would think 10 minutes may be too long.

Run TFC by OT (Temp File Cleaner)
Please download TFC by Old Timer and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link

[list]Save any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!
Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator.
Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.[/lis

I've observed that TFC is kinda....funky (for lack of a better word) on Win 7 x64 bit systems, runs but never stops/restarts Explorer & reboots (yes, I DID run as administrator, no UAC prompt given) like it's supposed to (same symptoms as OP--I had to end process in taskmgr) "breaks"/deletes user login info, site preferences, formfill data, cache, etc. , browser cache needs to be manually deleted to login to gmail, Google, Facebook (blank page, see image below) etc...& more....

EDIT: to retract previous thumbs down, see post #4

Hmmm, very strange  I just re-ran TFC in a Win 7 x64 Virtual Machine & the program ran...but NEVER stopped Explorer as described by the author. As Lt. Boopme suggested I had to manually reboot.

Nothing "broken"--which is nice. Perhaps your suspicion re: bad download has merit? (don't remember if I d/l'd from Bleepin or G2Go???)

I retract my thumbs down & give it a :thumbup2: if you're JUST looking for a standalone temp file cleaner. I prefer using CCleaner for it's multiple functionality (manage browser cookies, startup/startup info, system restore points...etc.

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT REPEAT DO NOT USE THE REGISTRY CLEANING COMPONENT IN CCLEANER OR ANY OTHER PROGRAM!!!
