How to Install Windows XP When Bootmgr Is Missing: http://www.ehow.com/how_6510930_install-windows-xp-bootmgr-missing.html.

If the above doesn't work, I have read about using Darik's Boot and Nuke bootable CD (DBAN)
to first over write the entire drive.
  • Download and burn the iso file to create a bootable CD.
  • Start computer from CD first.
  • At the prompt, type: autonuke (note: this will wipe all hard drives on the computer)
  • When DBAN has finished, start the laptop with the XP Installation CD.
Good luck.
