I have a non-tech friend whose windows 7 machine has started shutting down as soon as he signs in. I have used combofix previously but he cannot get windows up long enough to run it in normal node. I had him boot into safe mode and checked out msconfig and the registry to see if anything was hung out there. I don't have any other options other than running combofix in safemode but I understand that is possibly problematic. Please advise.

Thank you.

You may need to post or your topic be moved to the Virus and Spyware Removal since you have used Combofix.

Hello, cbondeson :).

While I understand you were only trying to help with malware removal by telling others about your experience, I suggest that you read the following.

You should not be using Combofix unless instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert. It is a powerful tool intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert", NOT for general public or personal use. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer.

ComboFix logs should not to be posted outside the Malware Removal Logs forum, http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum22.html , and then only when requested by a Malware Response Team member.

While your intentions may be good, I suggest that you refrain from trying to run ComboFix without being instructed to do so as the result of malware topic initiated here at BC.

Incomplete or improper advice provided might result in negative events as outlined in the instructions for using ComboFix.

"You should not run ComboFix unless you are specifically asked to by a helper. Also, due to the power of this tool it is strongly advised that you do not attempt to act upon any of the information displayed by ComboFix without supervision from someone who has been properly trained. If you do so, it may lead to problems with the normal functionality of your computer."
