XP . PC freezes /locks whilst printing and moving files

hello
i have a problem that whilst printing off a document etc my PC will lock /freeze solid and require a restart to solve the problem , It is now also happening whilst i am trying to transfer files etc from the PC to a USB memory stick ,
any advice gratefully recived

system spec
windows xp pro sp3
amd athlon 64 FX-60dualcore
2.61 Ghz
3.25 ram

I would run the appropriate diagnostic on the hard drive.

If you do a Google search...you will see that there are many reasons that a system freezes.

Both tasks involve various common elements...the hard drive is just a logical candidate (because that's where the files are), IMO.

Please download MiniToolBox , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

I am working my way throught the items you say to check , however the speccy programe has caused my PC to crash with a total -excemption -fault
i will post the other findings ASAP
