I have a Toshiba Satellite P755-S5269 that I purchased about 6 months ago that has random BSOD's. At first I got BSOD's every once in awhile, and it didn't bother me. Lately, I have been getting them 2-3 times a day. I recently started using my USB mouse again, so I thought that might have something to do with it. I used Blue Screen Viewer and dug around on the internet to try and solve my problem. I tried a few fixes but haven't had any luck yet. Here's the two more recent dumps:

1) Look in device manager - are there any yellow or red symbols?

2) Download BlueScreenView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

I suggest you go to the Toshiba website and check for an updated chipset driver. Also see if there is a bios flash newer than what you have.

Let's collect some more information: I'll have a look at it and help you try to resolve the problem.

:step1: Please follow the instructions: BSOD Posting Instructions: Windows 7 - Vista

(Note: When you run BSOD_Windows7_Vista_v2.64_jcgriff2_.exe, it will also run autoruns.exe ... and both need to be in the same location!)
... with one exception in the following line:
  • "4. Zip up the entire output folder + PERFMON and attach the zip file to your next post."
The BC forums will allow a total attachment size of only 512 kb (and what you need to attach will exceed this limit). Please upload the zip file to a file sharing website of your choice and and post a link to it in this thread so that we can access your uploaded zip file. I will have a look at the contained information and see if I can shed some light on your BSOD issue.

See the suggestions in the following links for recommendations on file sharing websites:
  • http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/15-great-free-online-file-sharing-alternatives/
  • http://www.smashingapps.com/2008/08/28/5-best-free-file-hosting-services-to-store-your-files.html

:step2: Please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy, and post a link to it in this thread.
  • It is a convenient and accurate way of providing us with details of your computer specifications.

:step3: Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.
  • Checkmark the following checkboxes:
    • List Installed Programs
  • Click Go.
When the scan is finished, a text file will open in a Notepad window.
  • Copy the entire contents of the Notepad window, and paste in your reply.
(Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.)

And this only happens when you are using your usb mouse? Have you tried a different usb port? How about a different mouse?

It's possible there is a problem with the usb ports - please try connecting any other usb device instead of the mouse and let's see if that generates an error

And this only happens when you are using your usb mouse? Have you tried a different usb port? How about a different mouse?

It's possible there is a problem with the usb ports - please try connecting any other usb device instead of the mouse and let's see if that generates an error

Well it happened before when my ipod was plugged in. I never considered it being an individual port, but it's a possibility I use the same one. I've just noticed it more often since I started using my usb mouse again recently.

Run Driver Verifier following the instructions DRIVER VERIFIER - Windows 7 & Vista ... by jcgriff2
  • Notes:
  • Do not omit the first step, to create a System Restore point before enabling Driver Verifier.
  • Read the instructions on how to check the Driver Verifier Status.
  • Read the instructions on how To Turn Driver Verifier OFF when you have finished with it.
  • Read the instructions (and record them on paper so you have them if needed) about what to do IF you cannot start the system normally after it crashes under Driver Verifier.
  • Run Driver Verifier for 36 hours unless the system crashes. It doesn't matter whether you are using the computer or not during that time.
If your system BSOD’s under the Driver Verifier:
  • Locate the minidump file:
    • C:\Windows\Minidump <<< folder
  • Zip up the most recent minidump file:
    • Right-click on the most recent minidump file > Send to ... > Compressed (zipped) Folder.
    • The zip file will be located in the same place
  • Attach the zip file to your next post in this thread.
    • When you click on Add Reply, you will see the facility to attach a file just below the box where you type your message

It's certainly possible there is a hardware problem with the usb port itself

never got a BSOD. i wonder if it's just a bad port. i haven't been using my mouse in that port, and it's been working fine (or so it seems).
