Exhaust Fan

hello..today i noticed that the fan on my computer was running extremly fast..i can literally be heard across the room! this is the first time i've noticed it,it is a fairly new (6 months) Dell Dimension...running Xp/sp2 any ideas?

it could be for many reasons, the processor could be very hot, also there could be dust in the heat sink/fan which causes it to slow does. You can check the tempreture in the bios and if you open the case you can see the dust if there is a lot you need electronic canned it from ebuyer.com for about 5.00

All of my Dells are very quiet. You could have bearing in a fan going out.
