I've tried disconnecting cables and plugging them in, I've tried to shut down computer and what happens is the computer turns on but it doesnt boot up, the monitor stays black for a few seconds then says monitor going to sleep. I cant even see the boot up screen to change any settings...

If you cannot see anything onscreen...what makes you think that the monitor is sleeping, rather than failing?

Have you tried the monitor with another system?
