Dear Sir/Madam,

Same problem as many others, my google search results leads me to ads. This only happens in firefox, but not google chrome. I don't use IE, so I don't know whether IE is affected. I suspect it has something to do with my recent installation/update of Java, but I am not sure.

I understand that this topic has been posted over a gazillion times. But I honestly cannot find a true solution. From my searches, it appears to me that Combofix is the most popular and effective method to fight this problem. So my search for Combofix led me to this site, which told me that I should not run Combofix unless I am under supervision of a trained person. And so I followed the instructions, and created a topic here in the forum. Please offer some help. Thanks very much.

Best,
Alex

Welcome aboard Posted Image

I want you to see if IE is affected as well.

Then...

Please download GooredFix from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop
Download Mirror #1
Download Mirror #2
  • Ensure all Firefox windows are closed.
  • To run the tool, double-click it (XP), or right-click and select Run As Administrator (Vista).
  • When prompted to run the scan, click Yes.
  • GooredFix will check for infections, and then a log will appear. Please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called GooredFix.txt).

Hi Broni,

IE is indeed affected too, but in a slightly different way. I am running IE8. And when I click on the google search results, some links lead to other sites, and then straight back to google, some links just kept jumping and jumping to another link and went crazy.

I ran GooredFix.exe as you instructed when all windows are closed. Here's the log:

For Farbar, the scan resulted in 3 times error window bouncing up during the scan.
All 3 times, it says the following:

nslookup.exe - Ordinal Not Found
The ordinal 1108 could not be located in the dynamic link library WSOCK32.dll.

After I clicked ok for 3 times, it went back to the scan and here's teh report:

After I restarted the computer, my computer's icons appear to be bigger than before. I tried to make them smaller from control panel, and when I re-logged in, a message came up:
http://i49.tinypic.com/2ezskso.png

I quarantined the file as requested.

You're infected with ZeroAccess rootkit.
That will require elevated help.

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient.

If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.
