Hello,

I believe my computer is infected so I seek help from bleepingcomputer, which greatly helped me a few times before.

I was surfing the web but I let my guard down. I clicked on a google image but I did not know that it came from a malicious website. It immediately started to load a website. An AVG “Threat blocked” popped up so I closed the browser quickly, while nothing was shown and the page was still loading. I didn’t think it would be a problem anymore because AVG “blocked” it, so I closed AVG’s pop up. I should have written its name down.. If it helps, I remember something exploit in the description. Anyway, it soon strikes me that the virus might have gotten through and infected my computer.

So I immediately ran an ESET Scan and it found several threats: (Latest scan at the bottom)

I found this quite weird because I ran TDSSKiller 2 months ago to get rid of a rootkid.

I don’t know if my computer is clean yet… I plan to do full scans with AVG and Malwarebytes. Other than that, I’m unsure of what to do..

Thanks for any help!

All logs look clean so far.

Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner

  • Disable your antivirus program
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
  • Click Start
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check Scan archives
  • Click Start
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, click on List of found threats
  • Click on Export to text file , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
NOTE. If Eset doesn't find any threats it'll NOT produce any log.

Perhaps Avg really did "blocked" the threat then?

Done TFC, running ESET now.

ESET said no threats were found.

1. Update your Java version here: http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

Note 1: UNCHECK any pre-checked toolbar and/or software offered with the Java update. The pre-checked toolbars/software are not part of the Java update.

Note 2: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. If you don't want to run another extra service, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click OK and restart your computer.

2. Now, we need to remove old Java version and its remnants...

Download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it.
  • Run JavaRa.exe (Vista users! Right click on JavaRa.exe, click Run As Administrator), pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Do NOT post JavaRa log.

=============================================

You should be good to go.

Hello again,

For some unknown reasons, websites that require java can't detect java on my computer after I installed the newest version.

I also notice Java 6 Update 30 is still on my computer, so I tried to manually remove it but it says: Fatal error during installation. Same happens when I tried to remove the newest version.

Revo Uninstaller is more thorough in deleting programs on your computer than using the Add/Remove option in Windows. Since it is a more powerful tool, please be sure to follow the instructions carefully.

Please note there is a chance when you look for this program to uninstall through Revo it might not be listed because of the previous uninstall. If that is the case simply stop and let me know.
  • Please download and install Revo Uninstaller Free
  • Double click Revo Uninstaller to run it.
  • From the list of programs double click on the program you want to remove
  • When prompted if you want to uninstall click Yes.
  • Be sure the Moderate option is selected then click Next.
  • The program will run, If prompted again click Yes
  • When the built-in uninstaller is finished click on Next
  • Once the program has searched for leftovers click Next.
  • Check the items in bold only on the list then click Delete. You may have to expand some folders by clicking the "+" mark.
  • When prompted click on Yes and then on Next.
  • Put a check on any folders that are found and select Delete
  • When prompted select Yes then Next
  • Once done click Finish.
