Here's hoping that someone is able to help me out...I have a dell Inspiron desktop #531 - just recently, upon turning the computer on, it will not power up and will run only in safe mode. This is quite aggravating and a nuisance! Nothing new has been installed and I have tried system restore...to no avail. Dell is no help as the computer is out of warranty and I can't even email them. I am not a computer novice but certainly not a genius either. We have mcaffee on this computer not Morton's.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated...thank you so much!
Lori

Edit: Moved topic from Windows Startup Programs Database to the more appropriate forum, assuming that the information available from Dell is that this model Dell was shipped with Windows 7. ~ Animal

I would remove McAfee via the McAfee Removal Tool and see if it will boot up in normal mode.

It has windows vista. I don't understand about the mcafee tool. Why work fine one time and not the next?

McAfee could be causing your issues, due to a bad or impartial update.

Hello Loriotto,

Since you state that your computer has Vista, I'm moving this topic to the Vista forum.

You said that you haven't installed anything new at the time this happened. Were you noticing any other unusual behaviors with the computer before this happened?

upon turning the computer on, it will not power up and will run only in safe mode

What do you mean by not powering up? If it runs in Safe Mode, it seems to me that the computer powers up. It wouldn't run at all if it didn't power up.
