After reading a glowing recommendation of ComboFix, and apparently suffering from a misguided belief in my computer-related abilities, (aka, hubris) I decided to go ahead and run it.

Maybe not surprising to those in the know, but all the icons on my desktop and the associated programs are "marked for deletion" and won't run. Its this expected? Even Chrome , Firefox and IE are disabled.

If not, can I use the restore point ComboFix created?

(I guess I didn’t expect ’friendly’ applications to be affected)

Is there hope for my situation?

Actually, ComboFix is a tool that should only be run under the supervision of someone who has been trained in its use. Using it on your own can cause problems with your computer.

Having run ComboFix we need to see that and a DDS log.

Please go here....
Preparation Guide ,do steps 6 - 9.

Create a DDS log and post it in the new topic explained in step 9 which is here Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs and not in this topic, thanks.
Skip the GMER step and instead post the ComboFix log you have.

Let me know if that went well.

Should I reboot? I'm afraid that still the things marked for deletion will be deleted. I can't seem to use any programs that access the web.
