I have an HP Pavilion laptop and when I boot it up once it gets past the windows logo the screen turns black and only the cursor is visible. I think it was caused by a faulty USB port because I plugged my printer in, got the blue screen, and it hasnt worked properly since. I tried doing startup repair, and tried everything on this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Did you disconnect/remove the USB printer?

I know that Windows may have a problem when USB devices are attached and on at boot...when they were not installed at the previous boot or hadware recognition phase of the boot process.

Yes I have unplugged all USB devices and this issue continues to occur.

First off, you might want to edit your first post to remove the "." at the end of the link you provide. I love little puzzles like that ha.
Have you tried restoring the system to a previous point before the problem occurred?
