Try connecting to one of the LAN ports and check also your device manager for the status or flags shown on any of your network card.

Hi Chris, i am unsure as the router came pre-programmed with provider settings and the default user/pass has been changed by the service provider and i do not know it.It was a plug in and go type router and the SSID was broadcast straight away as TP-Wireless which the other computers i have are all still working ok wirelessly, its just my new one listed above which now doesnt connect wirelessly, but i thought by mentioning the mobile phone setting which i changed to static and then worked then maybe this needs to be changed also in the laptop or something? i am really unsure as i dont know much about networking :(

edit:would i be able to tell by going into the working settings of one of the other working computers maybe?

By saying it DCHP (commonly use) it will pull in IP, sub net and gateway.

by saying Static

you set up the ip address and subnet and gateway manuelly

Is your wireless working the adapter

Try this on the trouble machine it will diagnosis and repair the wireless adapter

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/using-the-network-troubleshooter-in-windows-7

Yes you can look at a working one and replicate it setting

If you have DCHP it would look like this

C:\Users\Chris>ipconfig

Windows IP Configuration

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection 2:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::6192:90ed:7dc3:9c4c%16
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.8
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

andy,

Does the Network Notification Area have five bars and has a little (*) in the corner or it disappear when you unplug the cable

Make sure you have the Wireless toggle on. I had to view the manual for your computer and you may have toggle it off

Press FN+F12 on your keyboard until the LCD light comes on.

Can you try connecting by LAN or wired then run minitoolbox and include the list installed programs on your next reply after trying the suggestion given prior. Do you see any available networks when pointing to your network icon?
