I was just on the computer and suddenly the computer began to restart. When it restarted I got the following error: "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. Insert Windows installation disc and restart." I don't have and install disc. Please help.

My computer will not boot up. The message that I get says that I need the Windows startup disk to proceed. Where can I get this?

Contact manufacturer support and see if they provide them for a fee?

While working on my computer it just restarts. When it comes back up, it is at a black screen and reads:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software update might be the cause. Insert the windows installation disk and restart the computer. And, it tells me that the file windows\system32\winload.exe is missing or corupt. The error is 0xc000000f. I don't have any disk. How can I fix this?

I suspect that there is something basically wrong with the system, such as a failing hard drive. The system may be losing communication with the hard drive and then crashing, and then telling you basically that there is no hard drive attached "the file windows\system32\winload.exe is missing or corupt" when it restarts.

Are you able to get Windows up and running at some point? If so, how long will Windows be usable, before it crashes again?

Simply getting hold of a Windows startup disk is not going to fix the problem.

Is this a desktop or a laptop computer?

Please provide the make and full model details (if laptop, get details from sticker on bottom).

How old is the system? Is it still under warranty?

It is a desktop. I have had it for at least a couple years. So, I am sure it is not under warranty. It is a Compaq Presario SR5010NX. The operatig system is Windows Vista Home Basic.
