Hello,
My Acer Aspire laptop started having this error a few days ago and will not doot into Windows.

File: \windows\system32\winload.exe
Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: an unexpected I/O error has occured.

It runs on Windows 7 Home and has a WD Blue Scorpio WD1600BEVT hard drive. There is nothing connected to it in any of the USB ports. The only other drive is the internal DVD drive which seems to be working ok because I switched bios to boot from the dvd drive and used a bootable dos version of Data Lifeguard to try to diagnose any hard drive related problems. The test will begin to run and I get these messages on the screen and the test seems to stop and it says the system must be reset.

199. UltraDMA CRC Error Rate 200 0 200
200. Multi Zone Error Rate 100 51 253

Warning! One or more current or worst case attributes are below threshold.

Anyone have any idea what's going on with my PC?

bootable dos version of Data Lifeguard

Run the QUICK test and then the EXTENDED test with the WD utility.
  • What is the result of running each of these tests?

The results from running both the quick test and extended test are the same as what I posted above.

Press any key to continue

Then when I press any key it says the system must reset press ctrl, alt, del or the power button.

Hmmm ... I am not familiar with that response from running the WD utility. However, the following:

Warning! One or more current or worst case attributes are below threshold.

would appear to refer to the S.M.A.R.T value reported in the following line:

5. Re-allocated Sector Count 29 140 29

If my interpretation of the S.M.A.R.T data is correct, the hard drive has failed. You should make preparations to replace the hard drive and re-install Windows.
