Alright! This has been going on for a while. I'm not sure how this came to be or what's been going on but maybe y'all can help me out.

As you read, my computer just will not allow me to download anything. For instance Firefox upgrades, or Adobe upgrades. You know, the norm. I'm running Windows Vista, on a Toshiba Satellite.

The only way I can describe it is, I will click on what I would like to download. Firefox then opens the "Downloads" window. The setup won't download until I prompt it. (little blue reload button on lower right corner of actual setup tab.) After this is done I can't go any further. I left click and it won't let me choose the open option. I really don't know where to go from here.

Now I'm not sure if this has to do with the same problem, but I can't even get onto Internet Explorer. It give me an "Internet Explorer has stopped working" Message every time and I just have to "Close the program". I really hope anyone can help me out because I really have no idea how to fix it.

Open Notepad and copy the text below into it and save it to your desktop call it msi.reg then right click it and select merge, now reboot your machine.

Also please tell me which version of windows vista that you are running Home Basic or what?

run sfc /scannow
http://www.vistax64.com/crashes-debugging/293687-sfc-scannow.html then reboot your machine and visit windows update.

Please create a restore point prior to doing this, standard for any registry adjustments, :)
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76332-system-restore-point-create.html

Also backup your registry with erunt.

Copy the contents of the code box.

OK, did as you asked except for the erunt. It brought me to this T mobile page that is in German so I had no idea what to do. I still am not able to download anything, but this time it actually took time to download a start up, and it scanned for viruses. Progress! Still not allowing me to open up the start up though. I left click it says "open" but I can't click that option.

Did you open an elevated command prompt prior to trying sfc /scannow ?
