Hi all - My wife's laptop has been infected with a virus, and no matter what I try, I can't get rid of it. A little background:

-She's got a Dell Inspiron laptop running Windows 7
-The issues started with malware that downloaded somehow called "S.M.A.R.T. Repair" that hid all of her files... I googled the issue, ran SUPERAntispyware and Unhide to get all of her stuff back, but since then her system is running VERY slowly, and she is routinely getting AVG alerts showing viruses that won't go away. Also, when I try and use Google, any time I click on a search result it redirects me to ads.
-The one that is up right now says she has a threat detected at c:\Users\Nouvelle\AppData\Local\Temp\tcoms.dll named "Trojan horse Generic28.BDDS", but there are other threats and error messages that I've seen.

I know very little about this stuff, but just enough to be dangerous, so I'm hoping that rather than searching for different scanners and things that have worked for other people, I'd throw this one out to people smarter than me. I really appreciate everyone's help in advance.

Thanks Broni.

On the Security Check scan, when the black screen says "Preparing", I get an error message titled AutoIt Error...the message is "Line -1: Error: Variable must be of type "Object"." Then when I click OK, it says "Preparing Done" but nothing else happens.

I'll continue down the list and post the logs here shortly.

aswMBR will not run. I downloaded it to the Desktop, and each time I double click it gives me a User Account Control message asking me if I'm sure I want to run it...when I click Yes, nothing happens (it's been at least a few minutes since I tried).

Download Bootkit Remover to your desktop.

  • Unzip downloaded file to your Desktop.
  • Double-click on boot_cleaner.exe to run the program (Vista/7 users, right click on boot_cleaner.exe and click Run As Administrator).
  • It will show a Black screen with some data on it.
  • Right click on the screen and click Select All.
  • Press CTRL+C
  • Open a Notepad and press CTRL+V
  • Post the output back here.

==============================================================

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

    Posted Image
  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.

IMPORTANT! If for some reason GMER refuses to run, try again.
If it still fails, try to UN-check "Devices" in right pane.
If still no joy, try to run it from Safe Mode.

It looks like you have rootkited partition there (Partition 4).
That would be a subject to an elevated help.

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient.

If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.

P. S. When posting there, post ListParts by Farbar log as well.
