TWIMC,
I started getting suspicious that i have a problem when my laptop would not conect to the Microsoft update server to check for updates. very soon after this I check in administrator tools whether that service was running and the programs it is dependent on. everything said it was going, yet microsoft update says the service was not running. I assumed some driver somewhere was malfunctioning, though i still had a good internet connection. At that point Windows errors itself told me that it was infected with win32/adload.
AD. as a result I ran the following scans, both in full mode and in safe mode, Avast pro,Combofix; MS maliscious software removal tool; sfc /scannow; malwarebytes; Cccleaner and Hijackthis. to no avail. on one site it said that update was dependent on system32/msdmo.dll and if that was damaged, the best repair was to reinstall directx 11. however i could not get a copy of that, so I stopped looking and concentrated on getting a post here. my hijackthis log says there are lots of missing driver files and dll files.
would like to know what to look for, if in fact i am infected.

Thankyou, Josiah

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer!

I am HelpBot: an automated program designed to help the Bleeping Computer Staff better assist you! This message contains very important information, so please read through all of it before doing anything.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

***************************************************

Posted Image In order to continue receiving help at BleepingComputer.com, YOU MUST tell me if you still need help or if your issue has already been resolved on your own or through another resource! To tell me this, please click on the following link and follow the instructions there.

CLICK THIS LINK >>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/logreply/454718 <<< CLICK THIS LINK

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

Posted Image If you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS and GMER log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links if you no longer have it available. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit Scanner.

Please note that if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows, you should not bother creating a GMER log.

Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

I have been working on the drivers for this Sony Vaio, getting all the latest drivers from Sony. since doing that the Windows Update service has started again, probably due to refreshing some of those system drivers. Today, 31/5/12 I have re done the DDS scan and have attached the results. this is a 64bit machine. I have up to date Malwarebytes and avast and am using them, so far they have not detected this trojan, Adload.ad. I am just going on a Windows error message, or notification " Remove the TrojanDownloader:Win32/Adload.DA", in the right hand show hidden icons area with a little flag
have not found any other indications of this virus. but Windows Explorer and Outlook are sometimes unstable and freeze up, then restart for no reason. I would like to know how to fix the broken system files, other than SFC.exe, how to get the virus out
this is a 64 bit computer, and i do not have a win 7 installation disk.

Third party programs if not up to date can be an open door for an infection.

Please run this security check for my review.

Download Security Check by screen317 from here.
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

Have run the scans, here are the logs
ESet has a lot of false positive, but am happy to get rid of spysweeper and babylon.exe toolbar. Thank you for looking at this. I used CCleaner recently to clean out the temp files where it found a virus so i don't know what they are doing there. I have also run Combofix last week before contacting you, if interested in log of that too?

Regards Josiah 23

Secure your system by updating 3rd party programs.

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.

Check your present version and update as recommended.
https://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

If present remove the old version(s) of Java using the Add/Remove Programs applet.

Java™ 6 Update 20
Java™ 6 Update 31

Critical vulnerabilities have been identified in Adobe Flash Player v11.2.202.233 and earlier versions... being exploited in the wild in active targeted attacks...

Get the latest Flash Player

On the top of the page you will be given an opportunity to download the version for your operating system.
Make sure you select appropriate version.

You will also have an option to install the Free! McAfee Security Scan Plus Un-check the box if you are NOT using McAfee's virus protection software.

For the users of Internet Explorer download version 11.
Flash Player 11 (64 bit)
Flash Player 11 (32 bit)
===

Get the latest version of the Adobe Reader.
http://get.adobe.com/reader/
Before your download I suggest you unckeck the box on the top right "Include in your download" this is not required. While the installation is in progress you can also deny the installation of any other programs that may be suggested.

When installed remove your old version of the Reader using the Add/Remove Programs applet if present.

Please run the ComboFix tool and post a fresh log.
You may be asked to update the tool, please do so.

Are you still getting what I think is a false positive regarding the TrojanDownloader:Win32/Adload.DA
