Hello Wink,

T.M Housecall keeps finding Troj_SE60717, and I want it out for good.

Please post the TrendMicro Housecall log file.

Please download Ewido Anti Malware it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido anti malware
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.

Post the Ewdio log, and the TrendMicro Housecall log.
If I've saved you time & money,
please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you! You can donate using a credit card and PayPal. Thank you!

Hello SifuMike,
I ran a Enido scan:
---------------------------------------------------------
ewido anti-malware - Scan report
---------------------------------------------------------

+ Created on: 7:39:15 AM, 02/03/2006
+ Report-Checksum: A5B0933A

+ Scan result:

No infected objects found.

::Report End

I had to run a new scan at Trend Micro
If there is a place to download a log file at T.M. Housecall I could not find it, I could not copy and paste from their list either.

March 2,2006 Scan Started at 2:40 PM

Troj_SE.112842

Troj_SE.112845
Troj_SE.112846
Is what it found and cleaned, It dose not list what they are, or where they are, or any details what so ever. What are these things? I can not find any information on them on the Net. I do find it odd that the last 3 entrys are in sequence.
Housecall also found:
Vulnerability in Direct Show could allow Remote Code Execution MS05-050. Here is some information on it Microsoft Security Bulletin
I do not think I have Direct Show on my computer, I do have Direct X, and on March 1, 2006, I checked with Microsoft Update Center and I had no new critical updates for my computer.
Before I ran Housecall I ran A-squared, SpyBot, Ad-Aware SE, Microsoft AntiSpyware, DrWeb, and AVG Anti-Virus scans at 8:00 PM every morning, they all came up clean.
I ran Housecall again, to see if I missed something, I got to "collecting scan results", it hung up there, 3 hours later, I ran out of time and I had to shut it down.
In another Post here on B.C. I was asked to run a scan from KASPERSKY:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have not had any trouble with my system for a few months now, no pop-ups or hijackings, just a few tracking cookies.

Thank You,
Wink

Is what it found and cleaned, It dose not list what they are, or where they are, or any details what so ever. What are these things?

The Troj_ sounds like it may be a trojan or false positive, but none of them are listed in TrendMicro virus enclyopedia http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/
I could not find them in the"grayware/spyware" listing either.

I do not know what they are, but they are removed from your computer. They may be false positives.
The only one that knows that is TrendMicro, as they decide what to scan for.

I suggest you go to http://kb.trendmicro.com/solutions/Srf/questionEntry.asp
and ask them. Give them all the information you can so that they can diagnose the problem.

KASPERSKY is a very through virus scanner and it found nothing. But that is because TrendMicro previously cleaned it.

******************************************
Please download, update and run the free A2 (A squared) anti-trojan

If malware is found, click the button "Remove Selected Malware".

Save the log file by clicking on "Save HTML-Report".

Let it delete whatever it finds.

******************************************

In normal mode, select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix.

O1 - Hosts: 127.98.9.2 mail@sasktel.net.b9

*******************************************

Let's empty the temp files:

Download CCleaner and install it. (default location is best).

CCleaner Tutorial

1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation.
IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbarfree Basic version instead of the Standard Build.

2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab:
Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Cookies.
Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
Clean all entries in the "System" section.
Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
Clean any others that you choose.

In the Applications Tab:
Clean all except cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
Clean any others that you choose.

4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
7. Click "exit" when done.

If it asks you to reboot at the end, click NO.

CCleaner should be run with the above settings for each User Account!

*******************************************

Lets dig a bit deeper and see if we find anything.

Download Silent Runners
Unzip it to a permanent folder.

Read here how to unzip/extract properly: http://metallica.geekstogo.com/xpcompressedexplanation.html

Start SilentRunners.vbs
When your antivirus is giving an alert, do not block this.
Allow the script.
When the scan is done, notepad will open with a log in it.
Please close this again.
I'll need that log later.
Normally that log is saved automatically in your silent runners-folder.

Finally, reboot to the Normal Mode and post a new Hijackthis log, and the Silent Runners log.

Hi SifuMike,

KASPERSKY is a very through virus scanner and it found nothing. But that is because TrendMicro previously cleaned it.

I know that you are busy but if you read my post a little closer, you would have seen that I ran the KASPERSKY scan on February 27, I ran the TrendMicro Housecall scan on March 2, I also ran Enido on March 2, before I ran the Housecall scan. Also I mentioned in my post that I ran A-Squared and several other scanners, all of them were fully updated, before I scanned with Housecall.
On December 31, 2005, I E-Mailed TrendMicro's support to get more information on Troj_SE60717, I still have not got a response, and I do not expect I will get one now.
I use both C Cleaner and Easy Cleaner byToni Arts a lot since I downloaded them, I like to use Easy Cleaner better. I also use the Tracks Cleaner in Micosoft AntiSpyware program every once and a while. I used all 3 before I scanned with Enido.
I will download and run Silent Runners, later on tonight.
Thank You for the help, have a great evening,
Wink

I do not really care when you ran A2 trojan scan or any of the other scanners. You could be reinfected after you run them.
I wanted you to run a2 again to see if it found anything.

Run Silent Runners in normal mode.

Hello Wink,

Your Silent Runners log and Hijackthis log are clean.

It looks like troj_se.xxxxx is "greyware/malware" and removed by TrendMicro when it runs, so I would not worry about it.
It may be a false positive from TrendMicro, but only they could answer that. Since TrendMicro do not disclose the location of the troj_se.xxxxx files, I cannot check it. :flowers:

I notice that you have four registry protectors running on your computer: Spybot Teatimer, WinPatrol, Ewido Guard, and SpywareGuard. Each one uses some memory, and they will produce multiple popups when you have a regestry change. You only need one registry protector active in memory. I recommend you disable three of them.

Hi SifuMike,
Thank You very much for checking my Hijack This log, I really appreciate the time you spent on it. I figured my log was clean, except maybe for "O1 - Hosts: 127.98.9.2 mail@sasktel.net.b9" line. I was not too sure about that one.
The reason I have so many registry protectors is I wanted to see which one reacted first to registry changes, untill you told me to download Ewido Anti Malware, it seems to be a excellent program, I just might buy that one, Teatimer reacts first just about all the time, I just wish the allow and deny buttons were not cut off, with Microsoft AntiSpyware coming in a close second.
Thanks Again! have a good day.
Wink

I have had them all installed at one time or another. Of all the ones I have tried, I like Teatimer the best.

Of course, Teatimer has an annoying bug: the allow and deny button do not show completely.
Spybot will fix that with the next release.

There are two things you could do.

First, do nothing and use the keyboard to select accept for deny.
If no portion of the "Allow change" and "Deny change" buttons are showing you can answer TeaTimer's popup dialog (English language version) by pressing "A" on your keyboard for "Allow change" or "D" for "Deny change".

Second, fix the problem the bug in the pop-ups checkbox buttons :flowers:
I tried it and it worked for me.
It is found here:

Hi SifuMike,
The download link for the fix on the page you gave me dose not work, on my end anyway, in either Firefox or I.E. I did a search for it and they all end up to the original page you gave me. I will just wait for Spybot S&D's new version.
Have a good one,
Wink
