Outlook Incoming mail appears to be blank

The problem I have is that when received Outlook Express messages are opened they all appear to be blank and if there is an attachment then it isn't visible.
If I try to print the message to Adobe PDF the about_blank name appears in the save-as area, and the printed message is blank.
I can send messages OK and the Inbox list of received messages looks OK too.
The machine was attacked with “about-blank /claimed to be Smitfraud” last year, and looked to be cleaned, (http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread26465.html). I’ve not used Outlook Express before on this PC so maybe it could be nothing to do with about_blank…..Up to now I’ve used Hotmail via internet so not had to access/store email through a POP3-SMTP/ PC based system.
Can anyone help, please.
Best regards,
