Windows won't launch

Windows XP - Lenovo desktop system

Fails with message C:\windows\system32\config\system missing or corrupt

Won't boot into safe mode. Any ideas?

Boot to the XP CD and select R (Recovery Console)

At the command prompt type:

ren c:\windows\system32\config\system system.old
copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config

Thanks for the response.

After I type in the ren line I get a message "system cannot find the file or directory specified"
