Hello everyone.

I wasn't sure if this should be posted in the audio/video forum or the XP forum. If this is the wrong place, please relocate it mods, thanks. Here goes...

I am running a Compaq Presario C500 laptop, with Win XP SP3, and I'd like to view my desktop on my flat screen tv.

The tv has a VGA input and the laptop has a VGA output, so I bought a VGA to VGA cable and hooked them together. It was my understanding that pressing the "fn" and "f4" keys at the same time would turn on presentation mode and my desktop would magically appear on my tv.

No dice.

Apparently I'm missing something here? How do I make this work?

If I need to post some hardware specifics, please let me know.

Thanks

Try turning off the laptop first then connect the flatscreen vga cables on either end. Turn on the flatscreen first in video mode then turn on the laptop.

jhayz,

Thank you for your response. I tried that and nothing.

How do I check/ensure that the VGA out port on the laptop is working correctly?

Thanks

The manual instructs the user to press Fn + F4 http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00821546/c00821546.pdf found on page 53.

and I'd like to view my desktop on my flat screen tv.

I am sure you are talking of the hp laptop...
