i had downloaded the antivirus AVG 2012 free edition from download.com or cnet is what its also known as. two days ago, but it slowed down my computer so i uninstalled it the next day. i had installed panda cloud after uninstalling AVG 2012. the problem comes from security center, whenever i turn on my pc on; it says my firewall is off so i click the shield to fix the problem. it also says i still have avg 2012 with panda. the program is still affecting my other antivirus and firewall even after clearing all traces of the conflicting software from my laptop. apparently there's still traces left or else it wouldn't be recognized by security center right?
my laptop is a Toshiba Satellite a25 s3072 running windows XP sp3.

Did you try the removal tool? If avg removal tool doesnt work try this

Press Windows+R key and type

cmd and click ok and run these commands

net stop winmgmt

Press Y and enter

cd %windir%\system32\wbem
ren repository repository.old
net start winmgmt

Restart the PC,this should remove all traces of AVG

would this also work for a full removal of avast too? that's if avast doesn't uninstall all the way.

First remove with the built in Uninstaller, Next check Add / Remove in Control Panel, Then run the Removal tool also -
If still in doubt Go Start > Search > "Click Here To Use Search Companion" > All Files and Folders and type the program (AVG or Avast) -
Right click and Delete any results found -

http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities
Avg Removal Tool

http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
Avast removal tool

When in doubt there is usually a Removal Tool to run after normally removing the programs -

Alternatively, you can also try using OPSWAT's AppRemover - supported applications list.
