A British man has been sentenced to 12 months jail for illegally accessing a Facebook account belonging to a US citizen.

I wonder how the US guy knew he'd been hacked? Anyway, story here: 21-year-old gets 12 months for hacking Facebook account

Your account login activity is stored within the account settings security portion. probably restored their access and checked from there.

Yes, but what made him suspicious?

The smart thing to do would have been to login, but not when the user was likely to. That should have been simple enough to calculate due to the time zone difference. The USA is 6-9 hours behind GMT.

Maybe his friends got weird random links that were fake security applications.
