I've been trying to use the BTFON service at a friends house because they use mobile broadband from Vodafone which has very bad reception in the area. However, the BTFON is also bad but is acceptable if accessed from upstairs.

What I want to know is, is it possible to use a wireless dsl router, possibly configured as an access point, to recieve BTFON upstairs and wirelessly transmit it downstairs, and if so how this is done.

I have 3 spare dsl routers, a D-Link DSL-G624M, a Talk Talk (Philips)SNA5630NS/05 with SNA6500 firmware and a Buffalo WBR-G54 to try this out on.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

How about asking the mobile service for a BT FON Router? It might be a propriety issue on using other DSL modem/router as looking on their FAQ page shows no information regarding the possiblity of using one. If the link I found here is related - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FON to your query, please follow and read.

Thanks jhayz, I've looked all over the place for the info and your link seemed to answer my question; It looks like I need a modem/router with the Fon software included in the devices firmware. I think i'll try my BTHomeHub at my friends house. I'll also try BT mobile and see what they say.

I finally got this working by loading dd-WRT v23 on to the Buffalo WBR-G54 router. However, I have subsequently killed the router by trying other things so I have no idea how well or for how long the dd-WRT solution would have worked.

I'm looking to replace the router with something else, maybe another WBR-G54, to try again.

Cheers.
