I have Windows XP vs 5.1. I can click on a word, excel document or just about anything and it takes the computer forever to respond. I have done the following:
-Moved several files to external storage
-defraged hard drive
-ran virus AVG and Malwarebytes

The computer was not this slow to respond before and its hit or miss. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hey if you previously installed a lot of applications you should try a defragment. It can take 1-3 hours to perform but its worth it.

Hi -
Just a few minor observations from me -

Windows XP Media Center Edition Professional 32-bit SP3Installation Date: 21 February 2006, 18:45
Without full details I have made a guess that it is "like" a Dell Inspiron laptop that is being used as a desktop now ? ?
(Battery State: No Battery) From this I must assume you run without any battery in the computer at all -

Java™ 6 Update 31 (Version: 6.0.310) Current Java is Version 7 Update 4 (now about 5 or 6 months behind)
Open Control Panel> Java (looks like a coffee cup) > 2nd Tab is Update -
Physical Memory - Memory Usage: 60 %Total Physical: MBAvailable Physical: 404 MB

Note that you only have a small amount of memory available, so you can always clean out unused/rarely used programs.
These Dell units were good when first made, but over time they have been superseded by the later and larger capacity models.
If you use Microsoft Office, and download a lot of movies quite a bit, it may pay to upgrade to another computer for Office use, and keep this computer just for smaller work or day to day work. You could also try running with the printer unplugged for a while -
Errors include Faulting application powerpnt.exe, and Faulting application zatray.exe (Zone Alarm). As I have never been a great fan of Z.A. (others will disagree), but if you use it make sure it is always fully updated, and working well -

Thanks for the response noknojon. The computer is actually a desk top Dell Dimension E310. It's getting older now, was the bomb when I got it. I did what you said and have added some speed. Most notable in the slowness is the MS Office, I may reinstall that.
