Hi,

I'm having a problem in my main Windows 7 OS. When I try to download anything to a folder of my choosing instead of the Download folder I get this:

You don't have permission to save in this location.
Contact the administrator to obtain permission.

Would you like to save in the John J Zettel folder instead?

I've used right click programs to take ownership of files and folders; I've changed security settings and still I can't download to a folder I choose. It's getting frustrating!

The folders I want to download to are on a different partition but so is the regular Download folder which I have no problem downloading to.

Anyone have any idea why this might be and how to correct it? Thanks.

John

Is this computer part of an office type setting where there is a domain?

Hi cryptodan,

No, this is a home office but not on a domain. I am the administrator and owner of the PC. My other Windows 7 OS do not have this problem just the main OS, the one I use most.

I do download a lot of GiveAwayOfTheDay software one of which may have been a download tool I'll have to check. Otherwise I have no idea why this is happening.

Any help will be appreciated though.

John

PS OH, there are a few accounts that I'm concerned about in Security under Properties, they are:

  • Account Unknown(S-1-5-21-...(followed by a very long number))
    • This account has Full control under Permissions. I have no idea why this account is even there, it also can NOT be deleted or "Removed"?
  • Administrators (HOME-OFFICE-1\Administrators)
    • This is a second administrator account with Special privileges under Permissions (which is full control privileges anyhow)??? This account can be "Removed", the other Administrator account can not.
  • HomeUsers (HOME-OFFICE-1\HomeUsers)
    • This account has Read and execute privileges under Permissions only. This account can NOT be "Removed"
Does any of this have to do with me not being able to download to the folder of my choice?

What happens if you create another folder, and try downloading to it?
