I noticed the little windows update avatar on the bottm right on my Windows 7, so decided to check out what the updates are and selected the 1 important update, and 1 optional. Then, it appeared that the update initiated, but only stated 0% complete and 0 data downloading. I waited for about 15 minutes, still nothing and then shut the program down and rebooted. After I rebooted, it took almost 3 times as long to boot up to my desktop. It starts up as normal with the cmos info etc., then the standard blue windows default opening screen with the little circle (like the old hour-glass) showing that something is happening, then the screen goes black for a few minutes, then finally boots up to the desktop.

Next, I tried to manually go to the control panel and scroll down to windows updates, when I click on it, all it does is get stuck and I am unable to close the windows update window either manually or through task manager. I eventually have to restart in order to get rid of the windows and control panel windows.

So, if anyone has any suggestions how to resolve this one, I would be truly grateful.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

This always depends on the number of programs/browsers using the shared bandwith at the same time. It's somehow normal usually running windows updates in the background. I just let windows transfer the update while using the computer. However, there is a chance that your computer might be infected.

I have a Silverlight one that I have now deleted from updates for the same reasons -

Thank You -

The important update is for: Security Update Microsoft Silverlight

The 2 optional updates are for: Intel Corp Display HD Graphics 3000 and Bing Desktop

*************

My sytem altogher is really running slow now no matter what application I now run. There are times when both left or right click don't even respond and when I do try to open a folder or windows explorer or firefox, it just doesn't open.

I will a virus scan using Malwarebytes and then after that is done will run another using SuperAntiSpyware to see if it picks up anything. I ran the quickscans and they didnt pick up anything except for tracking cookies. This time I will run the full scans to see what happens. Will post tomorrow morning what I find. If I am infected, I will need help to request this topic be transfered to the Virus Forum after I run the required system checks and post the results in order to start a new topic in there.

Thanks.

Try running Minitoolbox from here and include the List Installed Programs. You can also use the Windows error checking tool.

I ran SuperAntiVirus Spyware (free version) full scan and it did not find anything. Then ran Malware Bytes (free version) full scan, and it found, "Trojan_Fake_Alert" virus. Removed and quarantined it. Rebooted, then ran the free online ESET Scan over night, it did not find anything.

However, it still takes a longer time than it used to to shut down and reboot. It also takes longer once booted to acquire a network connection, whereas before I would have an internet connection fairly quickly. Also, once the computer is finally booted up and I am at my desktop, after being on for a while, I lose both FireFox and IE. Firefox just doesnt load when doubleclicking the the desktop short cut, and IE window comes up but I cannot load any webpage at all.

I will try to run the "mini toolbox" and post the results in the next post.

Thanks.

addendum to above log note:

I forgot to mention that late last night, I was able to successfully complete the Windows 7 updates.

And, when I open my Windows Live Email account, after I read my email, I close the window, but it still shows up as active and open on the bottom right task bar with the little 'envelope' icon. So, I go to try and close it and it does not work. Then, I try to open it up again from the windows icon bottom left, select windows live mail, and it just times out and does not come up.

However, the previous reply above with the aforementioned problems still exists.

Thanks.

Now, I can't even use Windows IE, it doesn't even work. I am using Firefox and it too is very shaky and unstable.

I think at this point, I will move my topic with its above notes to the Security Forum for assistance with getting rid of what appears to be a very malicious virus.

Thanks again for your assistance.
