Just bought a new computer (well, used but new to me). Last week there was 25GB free. I haven't downloaded anything and I got a pop up saying I have 8 mg. left. I have spent an hour trying to figure out where the space is. I can't tell. Windows 7. I have Dropbox on it, could this be it? I have downloaded a few small programs (less the 20 mg.) I also downloaded Java which has a very special way of screwing computers up, I have noticed. Any ideas?

Hi Charlie,

Did you Install Windows 7 on it because The whole OS is 10+ GB baseline with no Updates?

It came with Windows 7 installed. It has a small hard drive, 40 GB. There was 25 GB free last week. Now there is none. I have not downloaded anywhere near that amount.

that is very strange would you mine posting a screen shot of your local Disk C:\

Open My computer Right Click Local Disk and select properties There is a key called Print Scrn upon the Nun-Lock
and Right Click My Computer and select Manage

Click on Storage Management and get a screen shot of that too

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic43088.html if you need a tutorial on uploading it via photobucket or other sites

That way I can see what going on and other members made be able to assist on suggesting solutions

I can't give you the screen shot because now it says I have 0.0 mg space. It won't let me create a jpg. Before I had like 11 mgs. Can you tell me where storage management is located?

I was able to save it. Now it says I have 9 mgs. I didn't touch anything.

Storage Management is located in Right Click My Computer and select Manage and look for storage management on the right section of that. This tells me the partitions sizes and the way that way that the hard drives boots.

Anyway I can't determine the cause

Did you update Windows fully and Update to recent verious

It could be Java or Drop Box. Drop box automatically syncs any files from the cloud folder if you have that setup to that. Drop Box is likely the cause if you have 25GB last week and no space this week.

I could suggest you buy a another hard drive a bigger one but Is you computer a dessktop or a laptop if its a desktop than It simpler

Thanks for the response. The problem with buying a new drive is that I do not have the original disks. Can you tell me what I would need to do if I bought a new disk to keep this operating system?

I selected fewer files on my Dropbox to sync. I have about 6 GB on my Dropbox, so I do not see that it could be that. I just installed Java. Java is usually the root of all my problems in life. Is there a way to tell if it is somehow messing up my PC?

One last question, isn't there an online app that reads my drive and reports how space is allocated?

Thanks.
