I got what I thought was a virus that inactivated my copy of windows. i fixed that but now I have no sound. I have uninstalled & re-installed my driver but it's still not working.

Please post a snapshot with Speccy
Publish a Snapshot using Speccy =<< Directions

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
•Flush DNS
•Report IE Proxy Settings
•Reset IE Proxy Settings
•Report FF Proxy Settings
•Reset FF Proxy Settings
•List content of Hosts
•List IP configuration
•List last 10 Event Viewer log
•List Installed Programs
•List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
•List Minidump Files

Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed. -

Could you go to Device Manager and click on SigmaTel High Definition Audio then go to Details Tab.
Click under Hardware Ids and press Ctrl C (keyboard shortcut for Copy) and paste that string on your next post.

Could you download this

Then go to Control Panel - Add Remove Programs, Uninstall SigmaTel Audio, when it finish reboot your system., after reboot try to install driver that I give and tell what happens.

I would try uninstalling your Java installation...and then reinstalling, since the updater may be corrupt/damaged.
