I just purchased a 1T Fantom Harddrive. Does anyone know if it automatically backs up (i.e., has a backup program built in) or if you have to copy files to it manually?

If you copy files to it manually, other than documents, photos, music, etc. are there any program files that one should back up?

No drive will back up automatic upon being plugged in. That is a software function. The drive may come with software on it that can be loaded to perform regular scheduled or depending on settings changed files.

However that software would have to be installed and configured.

Good Luck
