Well-

I have asked on this problem before, and all the advice I have gotten did not help, but here goes again.

note, the BIOS looks like this one but the version is different.

Problem:
The usb ports have stopped working
Specifically, the 2WIRE wireless usb adapter has stopped connecting to the system.
--
Also, The mouse, when connected to the usb, fails to work.

Things that have been done:
  • checked bios settings there are none for usb support
  • unloaded the drivers now the usb doesn't even register on the device manager O_o
  • re-installed the software for the 2WIRE adapter hangs when it "waits for hardware wizard" which dont show up O_o
  • searched google, yahoo, and every forum I can think of, all to no avail.
  • did a system restore to before the problem started, but did not work.
OK, there were some viruses, i got rid of them, set up antivirus, antispy, anti mal, and firewall, etc.
basically set this guy up nice

Comp was running fine, then he went to turn it on, and it went into another endless reboot cycle.
he manually restarted it, and went into BIOS, and loaded OPTIMISED settings

That is when the 2WIRE, and USB stopped working
*I think*

He called SBC, they dont know sh** from sand.

I'm puzzled, BOTH on board usb stopped working, and there is no setting that would dis-able the usb in BIOS.

If the mouse doesn't even work - there's a serious problem here. It's either the drivers or the port itself that are damaged.

Have you installed the latest motherboard/chipset drivers? And the latest version of the USB drivers? Have you checked the motherboard for damage or bad capacitors?
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

Have you check the motherboards website for BIOS updates? You may need a patch for certain versions of XP.

Here's the thing... The USB was working before, now it stopped. It may be a hardware problem, but I'm guessing not, because when you plug the 2WIRE in, the green light turns on. The mouse is not recognised when you plug it into the usb port, but works fine when you use an adapter in the PS/2 port.

I told him to go into device manager, and look for Universal Serial Bus Controller, the only thing listed was an ATI all in wonder controller. Something having to do with a Remote Control for the PC.. It did not have the usual USB ports listed.

I have not installed any new OS's, because there was no need to. IT WAS WORKING FINE, THEN JUST QUIT

That's why I was thinking it might be a hardware problem, but, to have BOTH usb ports just up and quit??

I am not experienced in flashing the bios, therefore will not do on someone else's computer, thanx anyway.

Cannot install what I dont know about. I do not know the motherboard model, so I cannot "guess" what drivers it needs... I am not able to peer inside the case, because the comp is not here....

It still puzzles me as to how BOTH the USB just took a sh** and the computer doesn't even know it... There are no drivers listed for the usb, the network card is not listed... hmmmm
