Try launching Window explorer, right click on your drive where downloads are located and select properties. On properties dialog box select Tools tab.
Then click Check now in the error checking area. Select both items in the Check disk options dialog box, then click start.

If you have just one drive you will be given the option to run error checking at the next boot. Reboot system and let the chkdsk utility run.

Good luck

You might also run the defrag function...upon completion of the chkdsk /r command.
