I have no idea what to do. my firefox is incredibly slow like never before - all of a sudden. windows are opening up sporadically, I downloaded MS Autoruns which detected several missing autorun files, and the first one I googled (Windows\System32\ie4uinit.exe -ClearIconCache) gave me several results suggesting a virus. not sure what to do next. thank you for any help you can provide.

For Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, I selected Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan was complete, I did not have to click OK, then Show Results to view the results. The log opened up automatically in Notepad. I did not see anything that needed to be checked, and I didn't see any choice to "Remove Selected". Here is the log report below. then I will restart my pc and perform your next task.

Had to run Avast program 3 times. 1st time, scan window disappeared after about half way thru scan, and I got a msg saying that my pc was going to reboot. at startup, pc went into check-disk mode on its own. 2nd time, I got a blue screen after about half way thru scan. 3rd time went all the way thru. Will post results below. while I was looking at results and looking up some of the result line items in google, my Webroot SecureAnywhere software popped up a window that says: threat fss exe in c\users\Jeff\desktop. Infection is W32.Trogan.Gen. I am about to click "next" to have it removed.

here is Avast scan log:

So far all looks clean.

Download Bootkit Remover to your desktop.

  • Unzip downloaded file to your Desktop.
  • Double-click on boot_cleaner.exe to run the program (Vista/7 users, right click on boot_cleaner.exe and click Run As Administrator).
  • It will show a Black screen with some data on it.
  • Right click on the screen and click Select All.
  • Press CTRL+C
  • Open a Notepad and press CTRL+V
  • Post the output back here.

==================================================================

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

    Posted Image
  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.

IMPORTANT! If for some reason GMER refuses to run, try again.
If it still fails, try to UN-check "Devices" in right pane.
If still no joy, try to run it from Safe Mode.

GMER did not detect any system modifications. (I automatically closed the popup when I read that - sorry).

Hi, thanks for sticking with me. I just came to the site here to post some new info, and saw your next steps. but before I do that, please look at this:
I downloaded and installed AVG Antivirus Free edition 2012 this morning, and it just finished running.
there were 8 issues. 1 was fixed, 1 was moved to the virus vault, and when I tried to remove the other 6, I got an error "object is inaccessible".
They are all infected with "Trogan Horse Constructor.EUC"

"";"C:\Program Files (x86)\The Skins Factory\Hyperdesk\Common\ResourceUpdate.dll";"Trojan horse Constructor.EUC";"Moved to Virus Vault"
"";"C:\Users\Jeff\AppData\Local\Downloaded Installations\{9D58251D-E3CF-4B15-B159-D938C55F4FDA}\Hyperdesk - DarkMatter Subspace WIN7.msi";"Trojan horse Constructor.EUC";"Object is inaccessible."

What should I do? This doesn't look good. Please help.
thanks again,
Jeff

Those could be false positives.

Upload couple of those files here: http://virusscan.jotti.org/en for security check.
