A friend of mine has somehow got the sixa dialer installed on her pc. It tries periodically to dial out on of the modem (which isnt plugged into a phone line). She has tried to manually remove the dialer settings but they keep getting reset. The hijackthis log is:

Hello and welcome let's get started..

I can see couple infections there.

Please print these instructions out, or write them down, as you can't read them during the fix.

Firstly, that PC really needs an Anti-virus program..

Please get free version of AVG here.

Download & install it, configure it how you wish, update it. Set it to scan everything it can in the configuration, but DON'T run the scan yet.

Download CWShredder Here.

Unzip CWShredder to its own folder (ie c:\CWShredder)

Update CWShredder
  • Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
  • Click Check For Update
  • Close CWShredder

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

(In some computers the right button would be F5, so if F8 doesn't work, please try that)

Launch AVG:

Run a scan with it (set it to scan everything it can). Remove/quarantine everything found.

Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

Reboot back into Normal Windows and post back with a fresh HijackThis log. :flowers:
