Hi,

I have just bought a refurbished toshiba Satelite laptop from Curry's and after a few days it starting coming up with an 'error occurred during upgrade' message. It appears several times during the day. The laptop seems to be running okay otherwise, but it is annoying when it keeps popping up. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop this message appearing. I am running windows 7.

I am running windows 7

Hi -
You are a bit short on details in your Post - Can you try to add a few more details please -
Version of Windows7, Have you added SP1, Do the messages seem to be Windows Update related ??
Are you getting normal Windows Updates, and have you checked for Windows Updates ??

A message that says 'error occurred during upgrade' is a very vague one, because we do not know What "Upgrade" means -
Do you have any reinstall DVDs or the original install media, as this "may" require a reinstall or repair install -

Thank You -

Thank you for your replies,

Operating System: MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

Not sure if the error message is windows related or not.

I have installed windows updates, I think they were installed after the error message started to appear, but I'm not sure for definite.

I didn't get a restore DVD with this computer so I am unable to reinstall windows.

I have tried to attach a screen shot of the error message - but I pasted it into wordpad and it is 12MB in size which I think is too large for an attachment.

Any further assistance is much appreciated.

Hi all,

I am having the same problem. I also have a Toshiba Satellite, newly purchased and the error message pops up pretty often.

Rcxman, nothing appears in the taskbar. The error message comes up as in the screenshot provided and simply says, "Error occurred during upgrading, click to retry." If I click OK, it just reappears a second later. If I click cancel, it will go away for a while and reappear later on. There is no reference to any programme this error might relate to.

That's not a standard windows window, so lets see what process is associated with it.

Download and run a tool called Process Explorer.

When you run the tool, you will notice a long list of processes running on your computer. In the toolbar at the top, you'll see a icon that looks like a target -- its right next to the binoculars.

Next time that error message comes up, drag the target to that error window and release. Process Explorer will highlight the process in solid blue. Identify which process here.

Select File > Save to save a log of your running processes. Post the contents of the saved .txt file.

No such Windows message with that wording...seems to be documented via Google.

If it were me...I'd initiate a post in the Am I Infected forum.

Looks like an Adobe upgrade error message dialog box to me. Possibly a error while system was updating Adobe Flash or Reader.

Kisk
I have done as you suggested and used process explorer. The target relates the error message back to TOSDIMONITOR.exe, which I assume is something to do with toshiba. I have copied the text from the process explorer below. I hope it makes sense to anybody!
If you can provide a solution to my problem I will very happy.

Go to your control panel and uninstall the program "TOSHIBA Places Icon Utility". One of many pretty much useless apps bundled in Toshiba computers.

If you get the error window again please run process explorer again and spy on the window.

I have uninstalled this program and it has now been about 5 hours since and there has been no error messages.

I definitely would have received an error message by now - So this appears to have cured the problem.

Thanks All.
