My moms work is doing some remodeling and they are tossing an old compaq desktop.
It has a stick of ram in it and I was just wondering if I could use it in my HP Desktop for more ram.
I know there are certain types that work best with certain computers and that is why I came here because I don't want to mess anything up.
It has a sticker that reads

Samsung
KR
PC3200U-30331-Z
M368L3223FTN-CCC
256MB DDR PC3200 CL3

My computer info: Windows XP home edition with SP3. HP Pavilion Intel® Celeron® CPUGHz 2.69 GHz 504 MB RAM

Thanks for any help to come!

*edit* I ran a scan on Crucial and it says that for my computer "Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700, DDR PC3200 with a maximum of 512MB per slot.*
*Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory."

Sounds like you are good to go with that extra 256 mb of ram :)

I think you have to try the RAM stick in your system...to see if it's a fit.

Both PC2700 and PC3200 are compatible when paired...but certain manufacturer brands may not be compatible.

The simple answer is to insert the second module and see how the system responds.

Thanks for the replies guys! So it's good to mix the 2700 with the 3200? Since they are different volt sizes? I read some ppl say it will mess my computer up and some say it be fine

You cannot tell...by just looking or talking...you have to try it.

It didn't work. It got past the windows loading screen and then showed lines and lines of greenish designs. I took it out and it loaded normally.
