vBulletin forums vulnerable to attack

Certain forums appear to be vulnerable to hacking whereby first time users who arrive via a search engine are redirected to an ad site. vBulletin forums are the favourite target apparently and the cause appears to be a search engine optimization plugin which has been compromised.
