First the machine, HP 180t, 16GB RAM, 2 300GB HD in a RAID, Win7 64bit, I7 at 2.67GHz, w/service pack 1. I thought the problem started about three week back when an app in FB (Space Race) stopped working for me. Usually the program will load but within a few minutes it will hang. I could do whatever I wanted outside the app, switch windows, etc. but I had to blow out of the app. Now I had only started playing this game about six weeks prior and I went through hundreds of games. In retrospect, I realized that there was a time or two where it seemed to take a little longer to load and then I realized that the problem had been progressive. It would hang now and then but as time went on it got worse until it was impossible to play.

Over the last three weeks I have been researching the issue and trying various workaround: updating the browser, trying different browsers, updating Flash, JAVA and anything I could think of. I have been concentrating on what might have happened around that date. Then I remember that I had seen the system hang in other places. Maybe a game in MSN would get stuck or take extra long to change screens. But this one app is the only one that I know of that fails everytime. I'm still using the machine and playing various games but I am yet to find anything that is a repeatable error. The diagnostic programs I have tried have failed to come up with anything so I am kind of stuck. I did a system restore on it a couple of months back as I suspected something was amiss.

I am missing something but I am not sure how or where to start my next search. Any suggestions or questions?

Hello -
Please expand on the diagnostics (except System Restore) that have been run
Examples may be sfc /scannow , chkdsk /r , computer inbuilt diagnostics ???

Thank You -

Let's see, I've used Norton Utilities, CCleaner, spybot, sfc, chkdsk, HP update, HP Diagnostics. I also have some apps to check on the temps of the CPU, GPU, and the motherboard in general. I am getting ready to do another HP tune-up and it can take several hours to run.

What does relia say?

Go to Star>>Seacrh>>tpye in relia and press enter

Relia is a reliably history graph in windows 7

Do you see any red "x" or yellow "!" points

In that graph what is the number right now between 1 to 10. This is only general information about the cause

Are you using any Registry cleaners. Its not recommenced because you can damage your computer

Edit: Please note that Norton uses allot of resources if you have an AV installed from them.
