hello, wondered if anybody could help me.

i have recently had to uninstall and reinstall my norton security software and since then i cannot access msn messenger or my hotmail account and an error message '80048883' comes up. i click troubleshoot and it tells me my 'gateway appears to be offline' then i click the repair button and nothing seems to happen, any ideas why i have this problem?

i have checked my firewall restrictions they seem ok, and the parental control is off so im really confused.

any reply would be appreciated!!

cheers sam

Hi sammyd and welcome to Bleeping Computer forums.

A google search turned up this fix for a similar problem with the error message you note.

Be very careful as this fix involves editing your Registry! Follow all instructions to the letter!

MSN Messenger repair

Hope this helps,
Regards,
Koan
