Last week the USB ports stopped working on my computer and I get a message saying USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. When I click on the message it says unknown device. However, my devices still get power to them. I am using Windows Vista. Thank you in advance.

Have you tried uninstalling the USB controllers...then rebooting (they will reinstall)?

Start/Run...type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter.

Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus Controllers...click the plus sign in front.

Uninstall each item which reflects the word "controller", one by one.

Reboot Windows.

I have done that and the USB ports are now working.
Thank you.
