my ASUS Eeepc 1015 netbook, running Windows 7 starter, hangs after i try to restart -- mainly after an update.

after acknowledging the restart, the screen would go dark and hang. i would have to hold down the power button to shut it off, then i would start it up manually.

any suggestions?

as a side issue probably related to the netbook...
often when the netbook goes into screensaver mode the mousepad doesn't respond when i want to get out of said screensaver mode. i have to hit a button in order for the netbook to "wake". once in a blue moon, even that doesn't work, and i have to reboot. :(

Hi hitpro,

my ASUS Eeepc 1015 netbook, running Windows 7 starter, hangs after i try to restart -- mainly after an update.

A few suggestions,

1.) It may just be a "fluke" if it only happened once. If it happens frequently, check out the Asus site for Eeepc 1015 netbook: http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_PC/Eee_PC_1015PEM/#download (make sure this is your model number).

There was a BIOS update: BIOS 1202 (2011.04.22 update)
  • 1. Update EC FW to EPCG-004b.bin.
  • 2. Fix N570 CPU reboot fail sometimes when boot booster enable.
(Note: There is even a newer Bios update, Bios 1301 (2012.01.30 update). Double check that it is for your exact netbook model.

You might check for other driver updates while there.

2.) "Hard resets" can be tough on the file system. It wouldn't hurt to run a check disk. Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. Be patient as this may take a few hours and can't be stopped.

Regards,
Brooks

Be very careful about a BIOS update If you do it wrong you can do damage. It often advise that you should keep battery power on and don't stop it until it finishes.
