Thank you in advance!
Have tried Panda....Housecall....Ewido, along with numerous other apps to try to remove whatever this is!
One of the apps named it "Mirar", but could not remove it. In fact, I've been trying for @ 2 weeks(!) to find a way to get rid of the bug that:
- intermittently FREEZES the computer
- redirects my browser searches
- causes 'flickering' of the pointer, as if something's processing (the computer's making that sound right now, & I've got nothing running in the background that I know of).
- causes unwanted pop-ups to 'similar' pages
Adaware keeps finding a 'critical object', I remove it, it's baaaaack! I think this thing is somehow attached to IE, and replicates, or restarts....... All of the free spyware tools I've used detect......"SOMETHING"....then want me to pay$$ to remove it. My geek friend brought over & loaded the Webroot Spysweeper (registered, not free), & though it removed some things, I'm still having problems....my computer has frozen at least 6 times during my typing of this post!
I've tried to tell you as much as I know about how things are 'acting'. Here's the Hijack this log, and again....THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!!
PS.....has the legislation passed where we can publicly execute these ppl who are creating these problems?

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Step #1

Scan again with HijackThis and check the following items:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm

O2 - BHO: bitlocker - {01EB5130-FC0C-4d75-B9CE-4801B1B854F5} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsn3.dll

After checking these items, close all browser windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked".

Reboot your computer

Step #2

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report
Start HijackThis, perform a new scan and save the log file.

Use the Add Reply button to post your new logs back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

Thank you, sir....VERY kind and thoughtful of you to help!
I left Panda running all night, as it was slow, and it was getting later....(at work). This AM, it was finished, and did NOT find any baddies.....cool! (so far).....because I had to do a hard shut down, system was frozen, ctrl/alt/del did not work...sigh
when restarting, it performed a scandisc, and briefly appearing at the bottom of the screen was "Windows made corrections"..... here's the new hijack log, again THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.

When it's finished, reboot your computer.

Unzip HJT into it's own permanent folder before doing anything in order for it to create backups. (Not a temporary folder & not on the desktop).

Post a fresh HijackHis log and tell me how your computer is running.

Thanks again....now when you said; "Unzip HJT into it's own permanent folder before doing anything in order for it to create backups. (Not a temporary folder & not on the desktop)."
I have to admit to being a bit.....ok, ok...."unsure" exactly how to do that.....
Anyway, I won't be able to get to any of the latest instructions until Tuesday, at the earliest.... so I'll do the start >>>>run, then come back here for further info on the HJT thing you want me to do by then...
(ie, no panic......I'll be back Tues.)
YOU ARE A SCHOLAR AND A GENTLEMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(thank you so much)

I have to admit to being a bit.....ok, ok...."unsure" exactly how to do that.....

Please create a directory on your c: drive called c:\hijackthis (and download) and unzip hijackthis into that directory. Run the program from that directory from now on. It is essential that you follow these steps or certain important features of the program will not function correctly.

The fact that you do not have the Windows XP suggest that you are not running a legit copy of WinXP... That is your choice, but it is becoming an increasingly bad idea since you can't properly update it to protect yourself and more holes are being found all the time that can be exploited... I strongly urge that you purchase and install a legit copy, then promptly update it... If you are in the US, you can find a reasonably priced copy here:
