When I click on an attachment in my email that uses windows media player, my computer down loads the attachment and opens windows media player, then then my computer shuts down and then restarts.

Did the email come from someone you know?
What is the exact file name?

Maybe forward it to yourself,with the attachment to Yahoo Mail,if you have an account there.
They scan attachments for viruses.

This attachment could be a virus.
You could type the file name into Google & see what you can find out about it.
