Most search engines are not working on my computer. I can access sites by typing in the URL, even www.google.com works. When I try to search, the connection times out after a long time. I get the message:

The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Some sites that use google will load, but take a long time to finish, other sites that use google will never load. The status bar when I'm on this site says "waiting for www.google.com-analytics" and takes a long time to finish loading.

I have deleted and downloaded a new hosts file with microsoft's fixit tool.
I have unchecked the proxy box in my internet settings
I have this problem on all browsers
I have deleted all cookies, and even reinstalled firefox and IE, and downloaded chrome
I have downloaded eset, CCleaner, Spybot S&D and scanned and found no viruses. I have deleted all temporary files and cookies with CCleaner
I have changed security settings with no results
The search engine Yippy works on my computer, google and yahoo do not work. gmail does work.

I'm running MSWindows XP Professional, ver 2002, service pack 2 (can't install sp3), Dell Precision T3400, intel core 2 duo cpu, E8400 @ 3GHz, 2.99GHz, 3.25GB of RAM

Thank you

Hello, The browser page open, say Google, but when you enter a term in the box you get nothing?
Please run this.

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.
