One of the most popular photo sharing sites just got a little more powerful. While the war of words between the iOS users and the Android community continues on. Facebook has stepped in to say they will offer one billion dollars for the popular mobile photo app.

Facebook said Monday that it will spend $1 billion to acquire the hugely popular mobile photo app Instagram. As Facebook prepares for an initial public offering of stock later this spring, the deal is the first major purchase by the world's most popular social network's of another online property with millions of users.

"For years, we've focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family," Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post. "Now, we'll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests."

Been around since 2010, but until just recently was closed to all but iOS mobile users.

thats why facebook is buying instead of you ,lol
your loss i guess ,but if you want, maybe still a chance to get it first , we could go splits and offfer 1.5billion .lol

Kinda fits really, more Facebookers to put quartz filters on all of their pictures, because that's all it really does. :rolleyes: Oh well.

Instagram is the biggest acquisition so far, but he's been picking up a few other businesses along the way: List of Facebook Acquisitions

Dwarfed though by those acquired by Microsoft, link at the foot of the page.

A bit odd though that Zuckerface retains 57% of the shares which gives him a controlling interest. Must be nice to be in such a postion that he can tell all those paltry investors to go take a running jump if they don't like what he's doing with their money.
