My cousin's computer got hit with adware and spiraled into some infection. I'm told at first there were ads and talking voices happening when the computer was up, then (fake) computer problem messages started appearing, and now it's guaranteed to crash to a IRQL LESS OR NOT EQUAL blue screen of death in less than 10 minutes. I'm not sure how relatives manage to do this every few months.

Anyways... please help me root out this infection. I know what infections are but not really how to deal with them.

Here's the DDS log with attachment... I could only make it in Safe Mode, the computer kept BSODing halfway into the scan with a normal startup.

Good evening. :)

Can you tell me how long the PC has been without an anti-virus program - I don't see one installed.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Unknown, though I'm told the antivirus was probably installed a couple years ago-- but that's the last they remember of it.

I just double-checked Program Files and Program Files (x86) in Safe Mode and I don't see any antivirus program there either.

Good evening. :)

Given that there isn't an AV present and there's no real way to know how long the system has been lacking one, I advise you to back up any important data that the PC has on it and then reformat and reinstall. The potential for system file replacement, patching and corruption makes a fresh start the most reliable way to deal with the issue(s) and also the quickest in the long run.

If you need links for some free security programs to help keep the PC clean in the future I can supply some.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

As this issue appears to have been resolved, this thread is now closed.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.
