Hello everybody.

I have had this problem for over a year, and have posted on other forums and done almost everything I could think of to try to get the game working again, to no avail.

Let me start off with the beginning:

THE BEGINNING

Around this time last year I downloaded a game called Bully: Scholarship Edition for my PC through steam. It was running fine until one day, when I went to start it up, Steam gave me this error:
http://puu.sh/ovHs

I thought nothing of it for a while. I then tried to run the raw .exe file, only to get this error:
http://puu.sh/ovI0

I asked an online friend about this, he said to check event viewer, which I did. I found this relating to the problem:
http://puu.sh/ovIC

MEASURES TAKEN

Note - the above images are images taken after some of my first actions.
My online friend told me to open the manifest file with Notepad. Not surprisingly, this is what I got:

I have attatched the corrupted manifest file to this thread.

He reconstructed the corrupted manifest file for me, however, even when I had set the file permissions of the manifest files to me, Windows wouldn't let me modify, move or delete them.
I had to resort to booting into linux and let him reconstruct the file.
It worked because when I tried to run the game again, the error pointed to a different manifest file (the picture in the link above).

Besides that, here are the other measures I have taken:
1) I have deleted the game and re-downloaded it completely. I tried to run it again with the same result.
2) I have followed all instructions at this link (the Steam Support Database) to no avail.

I am at my wits end. I have procrastinated getting this sorted out simply because I don't have the knowledge to fix it. This is why I have ended up here
If I don't get this problem fixed I will have to resort to re-installing windows.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Sandsh8rk -
Are you more interested in fixing the problem, or removal of the program and any traces of it ??

The removal of all traces "may" cure your problem, but if you want / need to play the game it will require another approach -

Thank You -

OK -
To FIX the problem you will actually need to remove the game -

First see if there is any Uninstall listing under Start > Programs > Rockstar (the provider of the game)

Next you will need to delete any entry by "Rockstar" that you can find - This is the program that will / should contain all parts of Bully -
Look in Control Panel > Programs and Features, and try to find all traces that mention Bully or Rockstar, then Reboot -

Then look in Accessories > Windows Explorer > My Computer > Local Disc (Usually :C) > Program Files, and remove any remaining traces of the program
Reboot again and see if there is any change to your problem -

At this stage you can use the CD for the game and try to reinstall it -

I have a bit of a problem with this:

I downloaded the game through STEAM, the popular game service by valve. There really isn't an installation process - the game downloads and when it is finished you can play it immediately.
I am however able to remove the game via steam, and I will post here again when I am finished.

Please describe any current actual computer problems -

I would now run chkdsk /r from Accessories > Command prompt (right click and Run as Admin)
It will say ~ A disk scan has been scheduled for next ..... (or to those words) ~ Click Yes and Reboot -
This will check for computer errors and (we hope) repair them -

Post back in about 1 hour (or so) after this completes the scan -

Thank You -

Funnily enough, I actually did run a chkdsk scan when the game was installed & not working (it took 2 hours), it didn't do anything to help with the game at all.
Would you like me to go through with it anyway?

Yes please, now that the game is removed, also it is not designed to inprove the game, only check your operating system -
Make sure it is a "/r" scan in case your system needs any internal repair -

You can also run a sfc /scannow (no CDs or DVDs required for Win7) -

Make sure you run from the Elevated Command Prompt )Right click, Run as Admin) -

Are there any other "general" operating problems at this time with the game removed ??

Thank You -

Hi -
Did you try this also -

You can also run a sfc /scannow (no CDs or DVDs required for Win7) -

If this is OK you can retry the game and hope it will not crash -
