I would get the Dell because it is slightly more powerful then the T61.

I agree. They're both business line laptops, so they're going to have a nice build quality, so you really only need to look at the insides. The Dell is slightly more powerful.

Well, generally speaking, Lenovo is a better brand build quality wise, but the dell business line, and the lenovo business line are just about equal. This world is full of more Dell Latitudes then it knows what to do with, because they last forever!

I wouldn't be able to compare those two particular models, but my family has 3 Dell's - a pair of Vostro 220s desktops and an Inspiron 1545 laptop - and we love them. We buy ours from Dell's website right after Thanksgiving and usually get about 30 to 40% off.

I worked in a tech department a couple years ago, and a good majority of the dells we had come in, had failing hard drives. That has always bothered me. Maybe I'm just paranoid though

Well the IBM won the coin toss but couldn't get past the Dell having the bigger HD so I ordered the Dell last night.

Well I would have said the T61 myself. But even then it would have depended on what each variant was equipped with.
For example the T61 could have had a fingerprint reader or Bluetooth and a combo drive or DVDRW drive. And of course for something I like to use the trackpoint instead of the touchpad.

Then I would have weighed each one against the other since that could be important too.
a couple of pounds can make a difference at the end of the day.

The other thing is I prefer the minimalist looks of the thinkpads.

Just curious what they sold for if I'm not being nosy?
Since I just ran across a site selling the T61 for $385. I gather they are selling around $100 less in wholesale quantity.

Thanks
Roger

$199.apiece.The IBM had been refurbished and I did like some the things it had.The 80GB HD was what really steered me away.120 with the Dell and plenty of parts available changed the coin toss just hope I live to regret it.
