A few days ago my update didn't run correctly and gave the error "not all updates can be installed" and I clicked the option for partial update.

It hasn't run right since

After googling - I tried sudo get-apt update

when it runs I get the following error

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
user@user-Inspiron-1525:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
dpkg: error: parsing file '/var/lib/dpkg/updates/0008' near line 0:
field name `коснётся' must be followed by colon
user@user-Inspiron-1525:~$

What do ??

sudo nano /var/lib/dpkg/updates/0008

On or near the first line, there will be something that looks like:

коснётся

Put a space, then a colon right after it. Then try:

sudo dpkg --configure -a

again.

Completed and returned the following error:

dpkg: error: parsing file '/var/lib/dpkg/updates/0008' near line 12:
missing package name

Thanks for your help - What do I do next ?

The space was a quick guess. Remove it and leave the colon.

This is the error I get now:

user@user-Inspiron-1525:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
dpkg: error: parsing file '/var/lib/dpkg/updates/0019' near line 0:
newline in field name `/.'

is there a way to just wipe and re-install dpkg ??

See if this works:

sudo dpkg --clear-avail

Then follow it with:

sudo apt-get update
